
{"id":187,"date":"2018-02-02T03:23:38","date_gmt":"2018-02-02T03:23:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bcc.lib.hkbu.edu.hk\/artcollection\/?page_id=187"},"modified":"2022-09-05T08:50:15","modified_gmt":"2022-09-05T08:50:15","slug":"propaganda-art-collection","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/bcc.lib.hkbu.edu.hk\/artcollection\/collection\/propaganda-art-collection\/","title":{"rendered":"Propaganda Art Collection \u5ba3\u50b3\u756b"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With the advice and support of Visual Arts faculty, the HKBU Library started to build a collection on Chinese propaganda posters.\u00a0This collection complements\u00a0<em>The<\/em><em>\u00a0Illustrated London News<\/em>\u00a0and rare periodical collections held at HKBU and provides a unique research collection of 19<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0and 20<sup>th<\/sup>century visual culture.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The themes portrayed in this collection include Chairman Mao, national minorities, international relations, politics and social issues in the Cultural Revolution until the fall of the Gang of Four, and Hong Kong&#8217;s handover.\u00a0\u00a0Highlights include the posters from the Hong Kong riots in 1967, visually illustrating the sentiment and the tension between the colonial government and the pro-communist local leftists.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This collection was later extended to cover posters from other Communist countries such as North Korea, Czechoslovakia, and Soviet Union.
