JAL commenced operations to Hong Kong in 1955 completing a Trans-Pacific route from California via Tokyo. This silk-screen poster which uses a bright colour scheme, typical of the 1950's, was JAL's first Hong Kong poster and it reinforced the importance of the sailing junk as the dominant symbol promoting Hong Kong tourism
