The Stockholm Appeal was an anti-nuclear war initiative of the Soviet backed World Peace Council, initiated in 1950. This was dismissed by Western governments as a propaganda exercise. The New Stockholm Appeal was an updated initiative begun in 1975. This poster depicting of an army of hands signing a document entitled 'New Stockholm Agreement', which morphs into a wall blocking the advance of a group of caricatured Western capitalists and imperialists. The Cyrillic title at bottom reads: 'Stop Armaments Race!' The printed signature of artist M. Abramov appears beneath the illustration at right. Texts in Russia on poster.
