Augusto Pinochet was the General and Dictator who rules Chile from 1973 to 1990. He ruled the country with an iron fist, among other things banning Labour Unions. There was much opposition overseas to his rule and commonality in support for the ANC also. The Viva Allende is a reference to Salvador Allende, ruler of Chile from 1970-1973 who committed suicide as the Pinochet coup-d’etat was underway.
