早在十三世紀已有人在這裏定居，或謂古時曾有將軍至此；英文亦稱Junk Bay，或謂「將軍」與英文Junk音近。1980年代政府在此移山填海，發展為新市鎮。
The name of this area, literally meaning General's Bay, could be from a visit to the area by a general in ancient times, or the similarity of the English name for the nearby body of water, Junk Bay.
