Lei Chau literally means
Duck Tongue Island.
原本稱為石排灣,昔日是一個轉口港。1841年有一批英軍在此登陸,因而亦有「香港的
起源」之意。對出的島,嶼狀似鴨舌,粵語
叫做「鴨脷」。因以為名。
As people thought the shape of this island looked like a duck tongue, Ap Lei Chau literally means Duck Tongue Island.
