The message of the picture is made clear in three large characters, SIN, written in the "grass style," i e. in the form of a serpent ; MAN, indicating a common ancestor; and DEATH, entering a globe. The design for this poster came from the daughter of the Official, who by changing the Imperial telegram in 1900 saved the lives of many Christians and missionaries, and lost his own for so doing.
