船灣東部原為吐露港北面的海灣，1960年代為解決水荒，興建兩條堤壩，將島嶼連起來，成為大型人工淡水湖，容量僅次於萬宜水庫。
Part of Tolo Harbour until 1960, Plover Cove Reservoir was created by constructing two dams between the islands.
