Sources given by The Times gazetteer and The Statesman's year book (1899), detailed population statistics for major provinces are listed, which include area in square miles, population and population per square mile. Area and population data of England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland and United Kingdom and some European countries, e.g. Norway, Sweden, Belgium, France, German, are provided for comparison. In addition, population of main twenty-six ports, e.g. Canton, Shanghai, are also shown.
